Surgical Services

  • Induction of animal: Placing the animal under anesthesia and preparing it for surgery is included in all procedures.
  • Anesthetist: We will provide a technician to administer general anesthesia, monitor anesthetic parameters, record data and administer drugs.
  • Surgeon(s): Experienced surgeons are available with expertise in veterinary general surgery, orthopaedics, and neurosurgery.
  • Circulator: We will provide a technician to open all the necessary items for surgery, operate equipment, maintain a sterile operating room and anticipate the needs of the surgical staff.
  • Scrub Tech: We will provide a technician to assist in surgery or provide the services of an instrument nurse.
  • Operating room set-up: Placement of equipment, instrument tray and all surgery supplies and suture in the operating room will be performed the day before surgery.
  • Recovery: We will provide a technician to monitor the animal during the recovery period. Once the animal is stable, it will be taken to the regular housing area.
  • Other: Our lab will be available for all of the previously mentioned functions plus personnel training, blood collection and laboratory testing, tissue sampling, euthanasia, necropsies, ordering special items and radiography.

Other Services

  • Hematology: Clinical chemistry, whole blood counts, and blood gas.
  • Post-operative Care and Monitoring: Complete animal care and management of study protocol interventions and procedures.
  • Digital radiography, μCT, and pQCT imaging: In-vivo imaging of animals using digital x-ray, μCT (Skyscan 1176 in-vivo scanner), and pQCT (Stratek XC-3000 Research scanner).
  • MRI & CT (Department of Radiology): Research dedicated MRI and CT scanners for live animal imaging.
  • Histology: Specimen preparation for histologic analysis. Board certified veterinary pathologist (Department of Pathology) reads and scores pathology sections.
  • Biomechanics: Mechanical testing on explanted specimens.
  • Gait Analysis Lab: Fully equipped gait lab with Gait4Animal instrumented treadmill and an 8-camera Vivon Motion Capture system.
  • Protocol Design: Experienced researches will assist with protocol design and animal model determination.
  • IACUC Application: Preparation of IACUC protocol for approval to conduct animal research.
